Introduction
What Is In A Name?
Attorney General Troy King's Guide to Protecting Your Good Name from Identity Thieves AND Restoring Your Good Name if You are a Victim of Identity Theft
Welcome!
Thank you for taking the time to visit the website of the people's law firm. A character in one of Shakespeare's plays once asked, "What is in a name?" Today, the answer is that your name encompasses your very identity. Unfortunately, as technology has improved our lives and as we have grown busier, the door of opportunity has also been opened to unscrupulous thieves who steal our identities, who wreak havoc in our lives, who destroy reputations, and who wipe out life savings.
Identity Theft has become a serious problem in Alabama and across our nation. In this day of mail and e-mail solicitations, when information is more available than ever, it is now easier than ever before for criminals to obtain your personal, sensitive information.
Identity Theft is a crime. As your Attorney General, I take Identity Theft seriously and am committed to assisting local law enforcement in combating this problem, in educating consumers, like you, about steps you can take to reduce your chances of becoming a victim, in helping those who are targeted in recovering, and in pursuing those who would steal our people's identities.
I trust you will find the materials on this website helpful. I am proud to serve as your Attorney General.
Sincerely,
Troy King Attorney General
